I don't judge moviemakers 'cos i find they all went to a lot of trouble. But of course, i've got my favourites ones ! =]
I was very happy when Ken Loach won in 2oo6 for 'The Wind That Shakes The Barley' (at last !), 'cos he had to wait until his 70th year to won the Golden Palm ! And even if i think this one isn't his best one, i'm glad anyway ! =] (i would have prefered 'My Name Is Joe' or 'Sweet Sixteen' to won)
But this time, i feel very mixed-up about 'Looking For Eric' : it is his last movie about Eric Cantona, the ex-football player. I recently learned that cantona was very appreciated in England, and he is in France too, of course. Even if he was a great football player (i guess, 'cos i was a bit young at the end of his career), he's not an amazing actor. Honestly, i was wondering what kind of idea had crossed Loach's mind. I recently hear Cantona on TV : he said that he wrote the synospis, and some French producers looked for a director. So, he just got a lot of luck !!!
In France, 'Looking For Eric' is already released in cinemas : i'm very sceptic, but very curious too. =]
(and just because i find really grand, the moment when he says "i'm not a man : i am Cantona" XD)
EDIT : Now that i saw it, i can understand a little bit more all this craze for the movie...
It's not an ordinary Ken Loach's movie, it's a bit more happy with a happy end (not very usual), and the story is skimpier (i hope it's the good word xD). Actors are really good 'cos they're natural and authentic (and then they've got the accent of Northern England that i love so muuuuuch *o*). I find Cantona very funny (especially his French accent from Marseille when he talks in English), he's okay.
Now i'm overwhelmed by asian dramas (especially the Japanese ones) ! It's a very different type of 'cinema', but that's often funny and it's not very thought provoking (sometimes, it is good to not think too much
